Hydrogel Knee Injection
Long-lasting knee pain relief - without surgery
Living with knee osteoarthritis can be life‑limiting - the constant ache, the stiffness, the loss of freedom to move easily. Arthrosamid® is an innovative injectable treatment purpose-built for knee osteoarthritis. A single injection provides safe, effective and sustained pain relief without the need for surgery. When Arthrosamid® is positioned within the tissue lining of the knee joint, it mechanically softens and increases the elasticity of this tissue – thereby improving knee functionality and reducing pain. It’s this unique characteristic that provides a significant improvement in knee functionality and reduction in pain levels. Arthrosamid® can provide relief for up to three years.

Once injected into the synovial cavity of the knee, Arthrosamid® disperses within the joint fluid and binds to the synovial tissue. Over the following 6-10 weeks, it becomes fully integrated, softening and increasing the elasticity of the joint lining.
A PRECISE, ULTRASOUND-GUIDED PROCEDURE
Each Arthrosamid treatment at Fit2Go is performed using the Clarius AI ultrasound system - a world-renown imaging platform trusted by orthopaedic and sports‑medicine specialists worldwide. This enables our clinicians to deliver the injection with pinpoint accuracy and visual confirmation throughout. Afterwards, we continue to monitor your recovery, offering structured follow‑up and tailored guidance to maximise results.

Clarius AI-powered ultrasound provides real-time, high-definition imaging, allowing our Consultant Physiotherapists to deliver Arthrosamid® with exceptional precision and full visual control throughout the procedure.
WHO IS SUITABLE FOR ARTHROSAMID?
Arthrosamid® is suitable for adults living with mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis who are experiencing ongoing pain, stiffness or reduced mobility despite exercise, physiotherapy or standard injections. It is an ideal option for individuals who want a long-lasting, non-surgical treatment that can delay or reduce the need for knee replacement, particularly when steroid or hyaluronic acid injections no longer provide adequate relief. Arthrosamid® is also appropriate for patients who cannot tolerate repeated steroid use, who wish to remain active, or who are looking for a safe, targeted solution to manage chronic knee symptoms under expert clinical guidance.

National recognition for Arthrosamid®
Arthrosamid® is supported by a growing body of clinical research demonstrating its potential to provide long-lasting pain relief and functional improvement for people with knee osteoarthritis. As a non-degradable polyacrylamide hydrogel (iPAAG), it integrates into the synovial membrane, creating a cushioning effect that appears to persist far longer than traditional injectable therapies such as steroids or hyaluronic acid.
Below is a summary of the key evidence that’s shaping clinical practice in the UK and internationally.
📌 The LUNA Study (2024–2025): Multicentre, International Trial
The LUNA study is the most significant and up-to-date evaluation of Arthrosamid® to date. Interim 1-year findings (2024) show that: Patients experienced statistically significant improvements in pain, stiffness and overall joint function at 12 months. Arthrosamid® was well tolerated, with no serious safety concerns. Benefits were maintained across mild, moderate and some severe OA groups. These findings reinforce earlier European studies showing the durability of Arthrosamid®’s effect. Source: Contura Orthopaedics, LUNA Interim Data (2024)
📌 Danish 2-Year Study (Published in 2022)
One of the earliest long-term studies of Arthrosamid® showed: sustained pain relief at 2 years after a single injection; improved KOOS and WOMAC scores; and good safety profile with minimal adverse events Researchers concluded that Arthrosamid® offers “clinically meaningful, sustained benefit” for knee osteoarthritis. 📌 Real-World Clinical Experience (UK)
Arthrosamid® is now used across leading UK hospitals and orthopaedic centres:
Cromwell Hospital (London) Professor Ali Ghoz reported treating more than 100 patients with Arthrosamid®, describing encouraging improvements in pain and function, and a strong safety profile.(Cromwell Hospital News, 2024)
Benenden Hospital (Kent)Benenden describes Arthrosamid® as a “pioneering, non-degradable hydrogel implant” offering long-lasting relief for knee osteoarthritis.(Benenden Hospital, 2024)
RNOH Private Care (Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital) RNOH notes Arthrosamid® as a cutting-edge non-surgical option providing relief after a single injection, particularly for patients not ready for knee replacement.(RNOH Private Care, 2024)
📌 Growing Interest in Sports & Performance Medicine
While not yet widely publicised, Arthrosamid® has gained attention within high-performance sport for its potential role in managing persistent knee pain while avoiding repeated steroid injections.Partnerships between Contura Orthopaedics and sporting organisations such as England Athletics reflect this early interest, particularly in older or high-volume runners. PATIENT SUCCESS STORIES
I was told I’d probably need a knee replacement within a few years, but I wasn’t ready for surgery. James talked me through Arthrosamid® in a way that finally made sense. Within a few months, my pain had eased enough that I could walk the dog again without planning my route around benches. It’s given me a huge part of my life and independence back.
Helen T
I’ve had knee issues since my early 40s from football and running. Steroid injections helped for a few weeks at a time, but nothing lasted. Arthrosamid® has been the first treatment where I’ve noticed a consistent difference. My knee feels more stable and I’m gradually building my training back up to pre-injury levels - something I genuinely didn't think was possible.
Muhammad
"Before , my knee had deteriorated so much that I was limping through most days. Sport felt completely out of reach. Within weeks of the injection, the change was noticeable; less constant pain, and a level of stability I hadn’t felt in years. By 6 weeks, I was back to squats and starting training. For me, it’s been a genuinely transformative step forward."
